Fable Studio put a lot of work into making Lucy believable as an interactive character. This included teaming up with New York’s immersive theater company Third Rail for choreography and motion capture

This Emmy and Peabody Award–winning collaboration brought my and Third Rail’s approach into virtual space—translating the tools of immersive theater into a fully realized digital environment.

Working in emerging technologies and platforms is so exciting because it invites a fundamental rethinking of storytelling: how can we design experiences that can only exist in this medium? In this collaboration, we brought our experience working in across mediums help unlock what was uniquely possible in the VR space—and how those possibilities could be amplified to create deeper emotional resonance, agency, and connection for the audience.

In this critically acclaimed virtual reality experience based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, the audience is transported into a stunning immersive fable, where only they can help Lucy discover what’s truly hiding inside the walls of her house. We worked with Fable Studios on story development, experience design, choreography, sharing our tools as immersive theater makers to build organic, interactive moments between audience and characters. This collaboration delved deeply into creating rich, emotional connections for the audience, asking: What would it be like to interact, have a relationship, and go on a quest with a character inside virtual reality?

When Wolves in the Walls premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, we extended the experience, designing a narrative-driven onboarding environment within Lucy’s attic. This physical-to-digital threshold created an intuitive, story-based transition into and out of the headset.
