When working with not-for-profits and mission-driven projects, I’m always focused on how we can viscerally connect audiences to that mission—to make it personal for them. Real transformation around critical social issues happens when ideas become relatable, when guests can physically and emotionally understand how those issues affect their own lives and why they matter.
Yours To Lose at SXSW was commissioned by The Freedom Forum, a not-for-profit dedicated to amplifying the importance of First Amendment Freedoms. Our goal was to create an experience that would allow audience members to feel the importance of Freedom Forum’s mission in a palpable way.
Yours to Lose was a 45-minute immersive experience that took audiences through a series of multisensory scenes that explored the personal and societal value of First Amendment freedoms, the cost of losing them, and the challenge of protecting them.
The experience invited audience members to consider their personal connections to objects, ideas, and moments made possible by these freedoms and then lead them through spaces and scenarios that reflected and highlighted how easily those same freedoms can be threatened when we fail to protect them for everyone.
